Membership

Kirat Yakthung Chumlung has five kinds of members. They are:

  1. General Members
  2. Life Members
  3. Patron Members
  4. Distinguished Patron Members
  5. Honorary Members


General Members
A person, 16 years old or above, from the Limbu indigenous community having both statute and interest to acquire membership of the organization can receive general membership of the organization. For getting membership, s/he should pay Rs 5.00 and Rs 10.00 for entry fee and membership fee respectively. The general membership should be renewed annually and for the renewal of the membership s/he should pay only Rs. 10.00 annually. There are 20,000 general members of the organization. They have a rights and duties to participate in all activities and to take part in the decision making process of the organization.

Life Members
A person, 16 years old or above, from the Limbu indigenous community having both statute and interest to have membership of the organization can receive life membership of the organization. For getting life membership, s/he should pay Rs 1,001.00 and s/he does not need to renew his/her membership. There are 1,413 life members of the organization. The money collected from the life memberships are kept in revolving fund and only the interest accumulated from it can be used. They have rights and duties as general members.

Patron Members
A person, 16 years old or above, from the Limbu indigenous community having both statute and interest to receive membership of the organization can receive patron membership of the organization. For getting patron membership, s/he should pay Rs 5,001.00 and s/he does not need to renew his/her membership. There are 195 patron members of the organization. The money collected from the patron memberships are also kept in revolving fund and only the interest accumulated from it can be used. Apart from the rights and duties, they have given special rights and duties to patronage the organization when the organization is inactive, and there are organizational crises.


Distinguished Patron Members
People with high profile and dignity in the society from the Limbu indigenous community willing to contribute Limbu society through the organization are provided Distinguished Patron Membership. The organization also collects Rs. 25,001 for Distinguished Patron Membership. There are 16 distinguished patron members in the organization. The money collected from the distinguished patron memberships are also kept in revolving fund and only the interest accumulated from it can be used. Apart from the rights and duties, they have given special rights and duties to patronage the organization when the organization is inactive, and there are organizational crises.
          
Honorary Members
The honorary membership is given to non-Limbu people who have made outstanding contribution to the promotion of Limbu language, culture, script, and religion. Such membership will not be confined within certain territory.

There are five honorary members of the organization. They are:

  1. Dr. Byod Michailovsky (USA currently working at LACITO/CNRRS Paris, France)
  2. Dr. George Van Driem (The Netherlands, currently working at Rijks University Leiden, Netherlands)
  3. Pro. R.K. Sprigg (UK, currently residing in Kalimpong, Darjeling, India)
  4. Prof. Shiva Kumar Shrestha (Tribhuvan University, Nepal)
  5. Late A. Widart (Germany)
